2016 is the United Nations International Year of Pulses. Pulses are the edible seeds of legumes: the most important ones in Canada are dried peas and beans, chickpeas, favas, and lentils. Pulses could and should do much to address two of our major issues of the day: climate change and economic diversification. Yet they are never mentioned by our politicians.
