Initiated in the spring of 2013 with funds raised by Lillooet Food Matters, the portable Community Seed Library is designed to encourage and support the creation of a sustainable local food system through cooperation among gardeners and seed savers. The library contains seeds for the community to share and grow. It is set up for people to check out 5 packages of seeds at a time, with the request that they return a portion of the saved seed to the library for others to use. The seeds in the library are free for the taking, and come with easy-to-follow seed saving guidelines. The portable library has appeared at the Farmer’s Market and other relevant community events.
