Community Farm Endowment Fund (CFEF)

Grant Amounts

• Grants range from $500 to $10,000
• A maximum of one grant per Community Farm per year

Eligibility

Applicants’ purposes and activities must align with FarmFolk CityFolk’s charitable mandate to cultivate a local, sustainable food system in British Columbia.

CFEF grants are not intended to be sustaining grants to support the general operating costs of Community Farms or on-farm businesses. However, CFEF grants may be useful to Community Farms during times of‬ ‭transition to help reorganize community farm policy and/ or practice, or to strategically manage‬ or adapt to changes, and such applications may be considered by the Community Farms‬‭ Alliance.‬

Eligible Activities

Funding may support:

• Planning
• Education and training
• Research
• Infrastructure improvements that directly support agricultural activities

Ineligible Activities

Funding will not support:

• General or ongoing operating expenses
• Administrative overheard
• Fundraising activities
• Retroactive funding for expense prior to grant approval date
• Deficit Funding

Priorities

The CFA will review all Letters of Inquiry and will ask for applications from Community Farms that most closely align with CFEF priorities, which include:

• Community Farms that have not received funding from CFEF in the past two years
• Community Farms on land that is not privately owned
• Projects that clearly demonstrate community benefit (e.g. including but not limited to food security, environmental sustainability, food justice, food sovereignty)

1. Letter of Inquiry – Open until February 9, 2026

• Approximately one page ( 450 words maximum)
• Introduce your community farm
• Describe the proposed project and activities
• Include start and completion dates
• Provide a simple project budget
• Include whether you have any matching funds
• State the amount requested from the CFEF as well as any other funding sources
• Letters of Inquiry will be reviewed as they are received

2. Review and Invitation to submit a proposal – Invitations to submit a full proposal will be sent the week of February 16, 2026. and proposals must be submitted by February 28, 2026

• The Community Farm Alliance (CFA) will review all LOIs
• Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal
• All applicants will be notified whether they were selected or not
• The full proposal asks for more details than what is expected for the Letter of Inquiry including workplan with timelines, intended impact and more detailed budget. The intention is for this not to be an onerous process.

3. Final Decisions – Decisions will be communicated the week of March 9, 2026

• Final funding decisions rest with the Community Farm Alliance
• The Community Farm will receive 90% of the awarded amount within two weeks of when the fund transfer information has been provided to FarmFolk CityFolk and the remaining 10% within two weeks after the final report has been accepted.

Granting

Grant recipients will:

• Ensure proper fiscal management‬
• Ensure activities reflect those described in the project proposal‬
• Seek Community Farms Alliance approval for any changes to the proposal‬, in particular to the budget, activities and expected impact
• Submit a final narrative report (450 words maximum) and financials as per authorization letter‬
• Permit publication of project results by FFCF (print and online)‬
• Provide public recognition of the support received‬
