After an incredible year for our Board in 2024, we are pleased to share some exciting updates for the year ahead.
First, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Adebusola (Debbie) Oyenuga, who is stepping down after six years of dedicated service. Debbie served three full terms on our Board, including the past two years as Treasurer. We deeply appreciate her generous contributions of time, expertise, and unwavering commitment to strengthening local food systems.
We are thrilled to welcome two new directors to our Board: Sammy Blair and Robyn Curry.
Sammy Blair is a passionate advocate for sustainable, just, and community-led food systems. She holds a Master of Science in Integrated Studies in Land and Food Systems from the University of British Columbia, where she focused her research on school farms and food literacy. Sammy brings broad experience across the food system, including work in food security, gleaning, waste management, farming, education, and research.
Her work spans regions and sectors, including coordinating regional food hubs, supporting Indigenous food sovereignty projects, and leading food systems research. As the Food Security Manager with the Land to Table Network, she fosters collaboration among producers, institutions, local governments, businesses, and nonprofits. Sammy has co-authored provincial resources such as the Growing School Farms toolkit for Farm to School BC and the Feed BC Guide to Sourcing B.C. Food in K–12 School Food Programs.
Robyn Curry is a governance professional who is passionate about helping boards lead with purpose and clarity. She believes strong governance can be a powerful tool for advancing an organization’s mission, and that it should be practical, people-centred, and impactful.
As a Governance Associate at Watson Board Advisors, Robyn has spent the past nine years working with boards across Canada, including those in the agriculture sector. She brings curiosity, respect, and a calm presence to each board she serves.
Joni Wright is our new chair, Susheela Kundargi and Colleen Popyk are co-vice chairs, Paul Kelly is our treasurer, Fiona Cameron is our secretary, Amber Garnett, Andrea Gunner, and Matthew Kyriakides continue to serve as directors.
We are sincerely grateful to our dedicated Board of Directors. Their collective knowledge and leadership help guide our strategic direction and ensure the continued strength of our organization.
