Turn your Garden Waste into a Winter Treasure
Spruce up your home this holiday season by turning your garden waste into gorgeous winter planters. This fun and easy outdoor activity can really get your creative juices flowing.
Think local when sourcing your materials. Look for viable plants such as windrows, orchards, and bushes either on your property or around the neighbourhood. Be mindful of what you take and where it comes from. Deadfall in parks can serve ecological benefits and moving organic material over long distances can encourage the spread of disease. You can also scan your local garden centre if you do not have access to fresh materials. Search online pruning guides for particular plants if you are unsure of procedures.
Here is a list of potential materials:
- Berry sprays
- Branches
- Boughs
- Evergreen living plants
- Lights
- Pinecones
- Seedpods
- Winter decorations
To best secure branches and other materials, fill your pot with a heavier variety of planter mix such as landscape soil. When designing your winter planter we recommend either starting back to front or from the middle outwards.
To maintain your planter, ensure the soil stays moist, and water or mist the boughs every few days.
