Lohbrunner Farm: June Update

At our Lohbrunner Farm, spring has seemed pretty strange this year. The normal busyness and anxiety of spring on a farm has been compounded and expanded upon by COVID-19 turning into a full-blown global pandemic. That has meant a complete “swivel” for the market farm businesses, Vitality Farm and Sweet Acres Farm. One positive side effect is the farm’s greatly expanded Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs. It is so awesome to have our communities step up to support us this spring!
It has also been a swivel for Lohbrunner Community Farm Co-op (LCFC) itself. Last year we expanded our on-farm educational programming for kids, as well as hosted our first annual Soil to Soul Feast – a multi-course, interactive gourmet long table dinner here on the farm. It was a smashing success. Our original plan for 2020 included hosting those two programs. Both of which are important for co-op revenue and keeping the community engaged with the farm.
Due to COVID-19, we are scaling back. Now we are focused on caring for our land and growing lots of wonderful and healthy food. Our expanded Homesteader members are growing more food for themselves this year, and our market farmers are also expanding into new and larger fields. In short, this means more food!
So despite the changes and difficulties around us, at LCFC, we are adapting as best we can, and taking comfort and strength from the community surrounding this farm and from the land itself.
